SPEAKING SESSION. UNIT 2.

Set on the 17th December, 2015. In this session you are going to play a role in a job interview. IN PAIRS, one of you will play the employer and the other will play the applicant. Follow these steps:

1 First of all, you should greet each other:

- Good morning sir/madam.
- Good morning sir/madam. Could you take seat?
- Yes

2 Have a look on page 26 (activity 4) of your student's book to make, at least, five questions. Examples:

-  Are you over 18?
-  Would you mind working overtime?
-  Can you tell me more about your experience as sales manager? 
- What do you do in your free time?
...
Then the employer will ask the applicant all these questions so the applicant can answer.

3 Try using expressions to make sure speakers understand everything. Examples:

- Can you repeat that, please?
- Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean.

The applicant will ask, at least, two questions to the employer. Examples:

- Excuse me, How much is the salary? / How much will I earn?
- Excuse me, Is it possible to work only at weekends?

SPEAKING SESSION. UNIT 1.

In this session you are going to talk about the following statements and express your opinion. Here you have the statements:

1 Smokers should be allowed to smoke in public places.

2 In the past people lived healthier lives.

3 Fast-food restaurants should be forced to sell healthier food.

4 It's healthier to be a vegetarian.

Now I want you to give me your opinion and some reasons for these statements. Follow these instructions:

- Prepare an opinion and a reason for each statement. I will ask you two out of four so... Be ready!

- Make use of some of the following useful expressions:

• In my opinion...
• If you ask me...
• I think / I believe...
• As far as I am concerned...
• Personally...
• It seems to me that...

- Try to use some connector of cause and result.

• Connectors of cause: Because of / As a result of / Due to
• Connectors of result: Consequently / Therefore / So

SPEAKING SESSION. UNIT 1.

In this session you are going to describe a partner in your class. You are free to choose the partner to describe. Follow these instructions:

1. Firstly describe his / her physical appearance. Try to describe his/her clothes too (at least some of them).
2. Later describe his / her personality. Use three adjectives to describe your partner and say something he/she is not.
3. Use the vocabulary learned in this unit.

PHYSICAL APPEARANCE

1. Genre --> He is a boy / She is a girl.

2. Hair --> He/She has got ... (remember to place adjectives in the correct order: Size, shape and colour)

e.g. "She has got short (size), curly (shape) and blonde (colour) hair."

3. Eyes --> He/She has got blue eyes / His/her eyes are blue.

4. Height --> He/She is short / tall / average height.

5. Weight --> He/she is thin / fat / overweight.

6. Face --> I think he/she is attractive / unattractive / gorgeous / pretty / ...

7. Body --> I think he/she is well-built / petite

CLOTHES

You can also describe your partner's clothes.

"He is wearing a green pullover, black trousers and leather boots."

PERSONALITY

Use some of the adjectives learned in this unit. There are lots of them: friendly, unfriendly, outgoing, honest, dishonest, sociable, unsociable, moody, stubborn, cheerful, calm, polite, impolite, patient, impatient, shy, successful, mature, immature, considerate, inconsiderate, organised, disorganised, dependent, independent...

You can also include some hobbies, likes or dislikes:

"She likes going out" / "He hates doing homework" / "She doesn't like sports" / "She can't stand westerns"
